Zabel

Aysel Yildirim, Duygu Dalyanoğlu

Zabel by the Boğaziçi Performing Arts Ensemble is the latest play in the ensemble's feminist theater series. The play presents the life story of Armenian author Zabel Yesayan with references to her stories "Silihdari Bardeznerı" , "Hokis Aksoryal", "Averagnerun Mech" and her letters.
Zabel Yesayan was an author, activist and exile. Her journey begins in Istanbul, leads to France and ends in a prison cell in the Soviet Union. She recalls her childhood, adolescence, years of activism and life in exile. Despite the darkness in the cell, her faded memories are brought back to life.

"In the depths of my memory, closed doors open and past moments reawaken. A word, a forgotten gesture, details of everyday life long gone and forgotten come back to life. I don't remember them so much that they communicate sorrow or joy to me once again."

In Turkish with German surtitles.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
