Portals

von Alexander Schubert

In ‘Portals’, four portals are opened into an alternative, virtual nature. These entrances provide insights into a digitally expanded and virtually overwritten world and reveal hidden elements of a digitised ‘nature’ that otherwise remain concealed from the analogue eye. The portals also refer to a reality permeated by simulation levels, which overlays our perceptions as a dazzling surface of economic, calculating and spiritual layers.

Alexander Schubert studied bioinformatics and multimedia composition. He is a professor at the Hamburg University of Music. In his artistic work, he explores the boundary between the acoustic and electronic worlds. In musical compositions, immersive installations and scenic pieces, he explores the interplay between the digital and the analogue.

A production by Alexander Schubert and the Theater an der Ruhr as part of ‘Theater der erweiterten Realitäten’.

The Theatre of Augmented Realities is a research and development project by Theater an der Ruhr in collaboration with the Academy for Theatre and Digitality and the MIREVI Lab at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, funded as part of NEUE WEGE by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
