SONiC iSLAND is an interdisciplinary series of events that brings electronic music, audiovisual performance and performative experiments to the Theater an der Ruhr. The aim is to create a temporary experiential space that combines electronic club culture, digital art and theatrical context - an archipelago on the outskirts of the city, a luminous resonating body between rhythm and reflection.
Einar Fehrholz & DJ Hummer
DJ sets
For many years, Einar Fehrholz has been presenting offbeat club-related electronica in the western Ruhr area, while exploring the sonic possibilities of contemporary electronic music and futuristic sound design. In his sets, he layers abstract soundscapes characterised by deconstructed beats and rich textures, drawing inspiration from innovative club sounds. DJ Hummer aka Max Heesen's first release as a producer in 2007 marked the beginning of a series of notable releases on labels such as Dessous Recordings, Liebe*Detail, Drumpoet Community, STHLM Audio and Mild Pitch. Under his moniker Ribn, a production duo together with Manuel Tur, Max Heesen has an equally attractive discography with releases on many different labels.
Visuals: RaumZeitPiraten
The RaumZeitPiraten (Tobias Daemgen, Jan Ehlen, Moritz Ellerich) have been active as a group since 2007. As technology artists, their areas of activity combine the fields of media performances, site-specific spatial installations, immersive environments, kinetic sculptures and interactive instruments. In ever new constellations and forms of these fields, they exhibit internationally at light and media art festivals, in galleries and museums, questioning the cold perfection of the closed machine. They design alternative, intimate human-machine interactions as an open network in order to find new relationship models beyond technological affiliation and technology denial.
