Die Entführung der Amygdala
Anna Gschnitzer
Theaterhaus Jena is a guest performer at ZwischenStücke. ZwischenStücke is a collaboration between the Mülheim Theater Festival and the Theater an der Ruhr.
It starts with a bang. Her head bounces off the bonnet and patriarchy is torn from her skull. Enter Amygdala: she forgets that she is a mother, forgets her children, her husband, the loan, the glass ceiling she simply cannot break through after her parental leave, the cost of living that exceeds her income, her parents who need care, the struggle – she leaves it all behind, all at once. But can you do that – can you really?
In ‘THE KIDNAPPING OF THE AMYGDALA,’ a woman breaks a taboo: after an accident and apparent amnesia, she decides to take on a new identity. Beyond her role as a mother and wife, she searches for a new place. She sets off on a journey, perhaps to another universe.
