Living well connected

The AWO Multi-Generational House in Duisburg is an exciting place to discover. Here, the interaction between all generations and many cultures creates rewarding opportunities for learning and encountering new people. Project team members Stefanie Jerz and Lisa Müller-Arnold see themselves as enablers of successful ageing, constructive dialogue between young and old, and cooperation in the neighbourhood, thus living out utopian ideals for the present and the future in a very concrete way: together – not alone! How do we want to live in close connection with one another?

The federal multi-generational house programme was launched in 2007. Not as a housing project, but to create places where young and old can meet. Around 530 multi-generational houses throughout Germany promote neighbourly coexistence and contribute to the attractiveness of local communities. The special bonus: every house is different and tailored precisely to the needs of its city.
