Elma Labrador Çimen / In Other Words
Tiyatro IN
In Other Words is a deeply moving play written by Matthew Seager, exploring the power of love, memory, and music in the face of Alzheimer’s disease. The play is being staged in Turkey under the title Elma Labrador Çimen.
The play follows a married couple whose relationship evolves as the man begins to show the first signs of dementia. As his condition progresses, the couple’s shared memories begin to fade — but one thing continues to reach him when words no longer can: music.
The play tells the story of a man battling Alzheimer’s disease and the woman who stands by his side throughout life. Set on the fragile border between remembering and forgetting, it portrays the enduring power of love and the vulnerability of memory.
Starring Engin Hepileri and Nergis Öztürk, the production captures an emotional journey: as a man slowly fades into the shadows of forgetting, the resilience and tenderness of his partner illuminate the stage. Music, closely intertwined with memory, plays a significant role in this narrative, evoking both connection and loss.
Minimalist in staging yet rich in emotional depth, Elma Labrador Çimen is a heartfelt reflection on what it means to remember, to forget, and to love beyond words.
