The most beautiful word…has not yet been spoken.

Poetry has always played a fascinating role in Turkey. It has stirred or soothed the soul, time and again conveying a sense of life, but also shaping it. Even Ottoman sultans wrote poetry; they were not only rulers and warriors, but also poets. This evening, we present some gems of modern Turkish poetry drawn from the inexhaustible wealth of this lyrical tradition. Through poetry, we wish to open the door just a crack so that, together with our audience, we may listen to the life of which the poets tell us.

The evening will be hosted by Recai Hallaç, who has been closely associated with the Theater an der Ruhr for over 20 years. For the Istanbul scene, he acts as translator of the texts and the post-performance discussions.
