Mami Wata is both a moving invocation of our connection to nature and a resolute protest, carried by the voices of a highly musical international ensemble that explores the figure of the Cameroonian siren Mami Wata as a mythological border-crosser between land and sea, life and death, colonial history, and visions of the future.
Blurring the lines between concert, performance, and ritual, Mami Wata weaves a fascinating tapestry of myth, nature, and the future, creating an immersive experience that evolves anew at every venue—in Mülheim, inspired by the Ruhr.
Through music, choreography, and striking imagery, Mami Wata invites audiences on a poetic journey between the past and the future, and between physical and virtual space.
A project co-produced with the FFT Düsseldorf, the Theater im Ballsaal Bonn, kampnagel Hamburg, and the tak Berlin.
