Open Monument Day

NetzWERKE: Monuments & Infrastructure – That is this year’s theme from the German Foundation for Monument Protection for Open Monument Day 2026

For over 30 years, this day has offered the opportunity to explore historic sites that are otherwise inaccessible or only partially accessible. The Theater an der Ruhr will be participating again this year!

On September 13, 2026, the Theater an der Ruhr will open its doors for Open Monument Day. The historic building was once part of the Raffelberg Solbad, a health resort that offered people relaxation and recovery. Today, it is a place for theater, encounters, and exchange – nestled within Raffelberg Park, which is also a historic site. Together, the park and the theater form a unique urban space that connects nature, culture, and people, demonstrating the importance of places that foster community and enrich our shared lives.

Our Program

For anyone who would like to get to know Raffelberg Park (better), the Verein zur Erhaltung des Parks am Solbad e.V. offers a guided tour of the historic park at 12:00 p.m.
 

During a tour of the theater building at 1:00 p.m., you’ll explore the historic structure – from the theater workshops in the basement, through the stage and dressing rooms, all the way to the costume warehouse under the roof – and get a behind-the-scenes look at theater operations.
 

For families, the theater playground in the foyer starts at 2:30 p.m.: During the mask theater activity, children will craft their own masks, which will then come to life during the play. Adults are invited to join in or relax in the foyer with coffee, cold drinks, and cake.
