Peace – a utopia?
Theme Day Ukraine
Conversation with Prof. Dr. Tobias Debiel

24 February marks another anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine – and it is not only this conflict in Europe that is causing us concern; other regions of the world are also experiencing unrest. Armament, military readiness, threats, attacks – a whole arsenal of terms that seemed foreign to us are reappearing in debates and in our minds. The daily news, on the other hand, shows us images of very real suffering and violent destruction.
In the context of this anniversary, however, we would like to talk about peace in the theatre: Is peace a utopia? Is it perhaps not even possible? How do you initiate it, how do you talk about it – how do you research peace? We would therefore like to interview people who have made thinking about peace and conflict their profession and invite you to a discussion with Prof. Dr. Tobias Debiel, political scientist at the University of Duisburg-Essen and director of the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) there, immediately after the performance of Making the Story.
The discussion will take place after the performance of Making the Story on rehearsal stage 2 of the Theater an der Ruhr, Ruhrorter Straße 108–110.
