“A theater reinvents itself… The launch has been a resounding success,” wrote "Welt am Sonntag" about the new concept at the Theater an der Ruhr. Since the start of the 23/24 season, the Theater an der Ruhr has been undergoing an exciting transformation. We have moved away from the traditional repertoire model. Instead, each season we present three theatrical events, each lasting several weeks, featuring multiple premieres, concerts, visual art, discussions, workshops, and other formats centered on a theme that defines that particular season. This approach creates unique, on-site thematic art and theater events. In between these events, we can also plan touring productions more effectively. Our guest performance program features productions by outstanding younger directors of national and international renown, as well as works by “master director” Roberto Ciulli.

Thanks to its unique layout, the Theater an der Ruhr is able to perform equally successfully on both large and small stages, depending on the production. In recent years, our productions have been staged at venues such as the Berliner Ensemble and the Residenztheater in Munich, as well as in Landsberg/Lech, Schweinfurt, and Idar-Oberstein, among others.
