Projects at the Theater an der Ruhr arise from encounters—between people, art forms, perspectives, and places. They view theater as an open space for collective thinking, exploration, and experimentation. Through dialogue with artists, initiatives, and audiences, they develop formats that pose questions, forge connections, and explore new ways of living together—beyond the stage.

Mülheim an der Ruhr is home to three very different, vibrant theater institutions: the Mülheimer Theatertage, the ensemble theater Theater an der Ruhr, and the co-production house Ringlokschuppen Ruhr. Together, they have formed the theater alliance vier.ruhr since 2019.
