School & Daycare
The Theater an der Ruhr has been working closely with schools and daycare centers for years: as a venue for performances, as a partner in the classroom, and as a place where children and young people can take the stage themselves.
Our programs are designed for all age groups—from preschool through high school: ranging from theater classes for preschoolers to school performances, workshops, and classroom plays, all the way to projects lasting several months. Some programs take place at the theater, while others come directly to the school or preschool. Many are free of charge.
We support groups before and after the performance, provide teaching materials, and—upon request—collaborate with teachers to develop custom programs. Das Junge Theater is a recognized educational partner of North Rhine-Westphalia.
School Theater Days
Once a year, up to 200 students present plays they’ve developed themselves on our stage—with guidance from our theater educators throughout the entire school year.
For Teachers
If you haven’t worked with us before, the easiest way to get started is to bring your class to see a performance: it includes an introduction, a post-show discussion, and, if desired, a theater workshop as a pre- or post-activity. We’re happy to advise you on selecting the right play and provide teaching materials.
In addition, our theater educators can also come directly into your classroom, regardless of whether you attend a performance. Whether as a one-time activity, a project week, or long-term support throughout the school year, we’ll work together to develop a format that fits your class and your topics.
A great way to stay informed is through our newsletter. In it, we regularly provide updates on performance dates, new productions for young audiences, as well as workshops and special programs.

Class Fund
