Eva Mattes

was born in Tegernsee in 1954 and is one of the best-known stage actresses in the German-speaking world. She lives in Berlin. 

Eva Mattes has been on stage and in front of the camera since the age of 12 and is still fascinated by her profession. Since 1966, she has appeared in around 200 cinema films, television films and theatre productions in leading and supporting roles and has been honoured with numerous prizes and awards. Her directors have included R. W. Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Michael Verhoeven and Peter Zadek. From 2002 to 2016, she played the crime scene commissioner Klara Blum in Constance on Lake Constance. She has now recorded around one hundred audio books, including the complete works of Jane Austen, and travels the country with her song recitals, which tell of emigration and the loss of home.
