Kara Handgraaf

is an employee in the artistic operations office, project manager for the new season structure and a member of the artistic programme team. She has been working at the Theater an der Ruhr since 2018.

Kara Handgraaf studied social work, art history and theatre studies in Essen and Bochum. She is currently completing her Master's degree at the Institute for Theatre Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. She has worked for various cultural institutions, including the Ruhrtriennale, and has been a board member of the Makroscope, a socio-cultural art centre in Mülheim an der Ruhr, since 2013. As a member of the Filmgeflacker collective, she has curated a programme of animated and low-budget films for the Oberhausen Short Film Festival since 2017. She is currently focussing on anti-Semitism in art and culture. She also explores the relationship between the city and theatre, most recently with the experimental choir Glossa (Γλωσσα ) on Crete, supported by the Goethe-Institut, for an artistic exploration of choir and labyrinth.
