Alina Sobotta

Alina Sobotta works as a director and performer. She explores the dynamics of violence from a radical feminist perspective and utopian concepts with a dash of humour. She studied American Studies, Feminist Studies, European Ethnology, Slavic Studies (MA) and Theatre Directing in Germany and the USA, including with Dr Angela Davis. Her artistic collaborations in the field of theatre and performance span Warsaw, Prague and Bishkek. In 2022, she was the first young director to be invited to the Prague German Language Theatre Festival with her production of 3 SCHWESTERN (3 Sisters). Previous works have been shown at the Thalia Gauß, the Schauspielhaus Hamburg (Malersaal) and her final thesis LENZ at Kampnagel, among others. She is developing upcoming projects at PACT Zollverein and Kampnagel, among others. She is an alumna of the German National Academic Foundation, the Fulbright Programme and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation (mentor: Pınar Karabulut). In 2025/26, she will receive the stART.up scholarship from the Claussen-Simon Foundation.

Kein Ort. Nirgends (No Place. Nowhere) is her first directorial work at the Theater an der Ruhr, with which she has had close ties since her youth.
