RAGE – Eine Wuterfahrung (UA)

By Alina Sobotta, Anna Deborah Disse and people from Mülheim
Directed by Alina Sobotta
Performed by Anna Deborah Disse

A rebellious experience of anger. What drives us into a rage?! – “The truth will set you free, but first it’ll piss you off.” – Gloria Steinem

Anger is seen as undesirable: be polite, constructive, solution-oriented.
Those who are angry cross boundaries and face consequences. As a result, anger is often turned inwards – manifesting as exhaustion, depression or self-harm. Yet there is power within it. In its most radical form, rage, it can be liberating and invigorating.

Drawing on conversations with young people from Mülheim, this solo performance explores rage as both a physical and a social condition. What drives us into a rage? When does anger silence us, and when does it make us speak out? What powers lie within it? In an intimate space, rage becomes a physical experience.

As an alternative to lethargy and indifference, it is rebellious and defiant: a force that can destroy, but also transform. What happens when we listen to it instead of suppressing it?

Premiere: Fri 13 Nov, 7.30 pm – we look forward to celebrating the premiere with you afterwards!

A post-performance discussion will take place after the performance on Thu 26 Nov at 7.30 pm.
