By Anagoor

An adaptation of the classic, exploring the realms of ritual, intoxication, poetry and theatre. Do you know what happens when order collapses?
Anagoor, together with graduates of the renowned Carlo Goldoni Theatre Academy, embarks on a daring journey into the world of tragedy. In Euripides’ The Bacchae, Dionysus, god of intoxication and ecstasy, returns to Thebes and challenges the authority of King Pentheus. The women of the city are swept up in an ecstatic frenzy – a radical transformation that shakes the existing order to its core.
Taking trance as its poetic and theatrical principle, Anagoor transforms the ancient myth into a contemporary vision of identity, community and the desire to transcend boundaries. The Bacchantes become figures of resistance: they dissolve the separation between the human and the divine, between above and below, between the individual and the collective.
This transformation is not merely an escape from reality, but a celebration of otherness – and a challenge to social conventions and power structures. Those who withdraw from it remain outside that experience in which dance, ecstasy and theatre shake the established order to its foundations.
“Bacchantes, Bacchantes! Have you been frightened?”
Following the performance on 21 November at 7.30 pm, we look forward to celebrating with you!
