The Rhinoceroses (Rhinocéros)
A play in three acts by Eugène Ionesco
New translation by Frank Heibert and Hinrich Schmidt-Henkel
Labor II at the Junges Theater an der Ruhr

An evening of theatre about transformation, resistance and the search for one’s own voice
Little by little, the inhabitants of a town are turning into rhinos. Only a few people resist the pull of the crowd. Eugène Ionesco’s play explores conformity and peer pressure, and the question of how easily social norms can be undermined.
Using the rhinos as a starting point, Labor II of the Junges Theater has explored themes such as conformity, transformation, order and chaos, and brings the play’s unsettling relevance to the stage.
Labor II is the Theatre an der Ruhr’s youth theatre group for young people aged between 16 and 23. Together, the group develops productions that combine classic material with their own ideas and artistic forms of expression.
Premiere: Sat 7 Nov, 7.00 pm; afterwards, we look forward to celebrating the premiere party with you!
