An intermedia performance about the power of paradoxes and chaos
Our society is in love with success. Only that which fits in, which appears orderly and works well, is appreciated. Yet because so much does not work, success is all too often merely claimed: we play the part of those for whom everything goes well, for whom everything is in order – ‘it has to be, it has to be’.
Yet it is often not the fulfilment of a dream, a hope or a love that drives our development, but its opposite: disappointment, unfulfilled expectations, unhappy love, the chaos following a personal failure. It is precisely here that the potential for change lies. Failure can trigger development, unleash creativity and open up new paths.
In A Plea for Unhappy Love, the VolXbühne, together with a cross-generational ensemble comprising residents of Mülheim as well as professional performers and musicians, explores the potential of paradoxes and chaos, of personal failure and dashed hopes – in a society geared towards perfection.
